The Pony Club State Championships

‘Gold Fields’ has won the tender to host this exciting event in May, 2009. The event will be held over two days and is anticipated to attract over 1,500 people from a vast cross-section of the community. Competitors, spectators, exhibitors, media and sponsors will be drawn from all around the state as well as from NSW and possibly SA.

In order to prepare for this event as well as future competitions, we are developing further infrastructure on the property including an accredited Cross Country Course. The construction of such a multi level course has been in demand for a long time and will be a first for the region.

The 2009 Pony Club State HT Championships will leverage the profile of the Central Victorian region considerably and begin to put Bendigo on the map as an equestrian area. The event hosts the best riders from across the state to compete in a final event, determining the state champion for the year.

Grade 1 and 2 level riders have to qualify during the year to compete at the championship event. Each Pony Club then selects individuals as well as a team of four riders to represent their club.
Riders then compete in three disciplines to achieve an accumulative score for placing. These three disciplines consist of Dressage, Cross Country jumping and Show jumping. This is known as Horse Trials or Eventing and is an Olympic sport.

The Mission of the PCAV is to:
· encourage young people to ride and learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and riding
· to provide instruction in riding and horsemanship and to instil in young people the proper care of their animals
· to promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, thereby cultivating strength of character and self discipline
